Transformation of Energy Science, Art and Photography Competition

To celebrate how far energy has transformed since 1924, Pioneer Energy are hosting the Transformation of Energy Science, Art and Photography Competition.

The following categories are open for submissions:

 

Energy Photography Competition

Age group: 8-18 years

Details: Capture a photo of any form of energy of your choice. This competition is completely open to interpretation, the more creative the better. Energy forms include: Electrical, Kinetic, Chemical, Thermal, Mechanical, Potential, Sound, Radiant, Gravitational, and Elastic.

Eligibility: You must take the photo yourself and if you are taking a photo of someone else or their property, you must have their permission to do so. You must be a school student within Central Otago/Queenstown Lakes districts. Max two entries per person.

How to submit: Please email your photo to 100yearsofenergy@pioneerenergy.co.nz with your name, age, school, phone number and a sentence describing your photo and which type of energy you have chosen to capture by 5pm Friday 15th of March 2024.

Judging: Entries will be printed and judged by two Pioneer Energy/Central Lakes Trust staff members and all entries will be displayed at the Teviot Union Church Hall on March 23rd, 2024 (number of entries dependant). Winners will be notified prior and will also have certificates attached to them. Prizes can be collected on the day from the Teviot Union Church Hall or from Pioneer Energy Head Office, 11 Ellis St, Alexandra during business hours from Tuesday March 26th.


Energy Transformation Competition

Age groups: 10-14 and 15-18 years old.

Details: Build a working model of something that goes through at least one energy transformation. Any of the following energy forms may be used:   Electrical, Kinetic, Chemical, Thermal, Mechanical, Potential, Sound, Radiant, Gravitational, Elastic. Your model must be safe for the person using it, and anyone in the area. You must include a one-page explanation document that goes with your model that includes the following: Your name, school, phone number, energy transformations used and any instructions required to operate your model.

Eligibility: You must make the model yourself. You must be a school student within Central Otago/Queenstown Lakes districts. One entry per person.

How to submit: You (or a delegated person) must bring your model to the Teviot Union Church Hall between 10am-12pm on March 23rd 2024, ready for judging at 12pm. Ideally you will be there to demonstrate your model, but if you are unavailable your model can be dropped off and the judges will review the information on your one page description to operate your model.

Judging: As above. Entries will be judged by the Pioneer Energy engineering team. Winners will be announced around 12.30pm once judging has finished. Prizes can be collected on the day from the Teviot Union Church Hall or from Pioneer Energy Head Office, 11 Ellis St, Alexandra during business hours from Tuesday March 26th.


Drawing Competition

Age group: 7-10 years old

Details: Illustrate a source of renewable energy in anyway you want. Feel free to be as creative as you wish. Examples of renewable energy include: Hydroelectric power scheme (dams and power stations), wind farms, solar energy, geothermal and biomass energy (i.e. food waste).

Eligibility: You must draw/paint the picture yourself. You must be a school student within Central Otago/Queenstown Lakes districts. One entry per person.

How to submit: Please send or drop your drawing to Pioneer Energy, 11 Ellis St, Alexandra, or Central Lakes Trust, 190 Waenga Drive, Cromwell, by 5pm Friday 15th of March 2024. Please include your name, school and phone number.

Colouring Competition

Age group: 5-6 years old.

Details:  Colour in one of our three wonderful templates.

Eligibility: You must colour in the picture yourself. You must be a school student within Central Otago/Queenstown Lakes districts. Max one entry per person.

How to submit: Parents/teachers please email 100yearsofenergy@pioneerenergy.co.nz to request copies of the templates. Once complete please send or drop your drawing to Pioneer Energy, 11 Ellis St Alexandra, or Central Lakes Trust, 190 Waenga Drive, Cromwell by 5pm Friday 15th of March 2024. Please include a name and phone number.
